The Inspector General of police Mohammed Adamu, has call on the country police to defend and protect themselves in any case of assaults on the streets.
The IGP said this during an inspection tour of Federal Capital Territory police command.
He urged his staffs to continue to do their duty deligently and in a professional and civic way. However he has instructed them to defend themselves from any case of assault.
“I will encourage you to continue performing your duties, be civic, but if anyone asualts you, please defend yourself the IGP said.
Adamu went further to emphasize that, the unity of Nigeria depends on the support given to the police officers. He charged them to ginger their Morale so that criminals will not take over the country. The country rely on you all for adequate security of lives and properties.
He also charged the police personnels to be rest assured of the government support.
This is coming after few weeks of protest on ENDSARS and police brutality in Nigeria. The government responded swiftly by disbanding the dreaded SARS and promise police reforms immediately.
The peaceful protest was hijacked by hoodlums which resulted to killings and destruction of private and public properties.
