Abuja high court dismiss alleged certificate forgery case against Governor Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party which was instituted by the All Progressive Congress.
The all progressive Congress and one of it member Williams Edabor, had accused governor Godwin Obaseki of forging his bachelor of art in classical studies certificate which he submitted to the independent national electoral commission (INEC). In support of his nomination as candidate in the Edo state governorship election of September 2020.
The APC had urged the court to disqualify Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Party, the people’s Democratic Party, from participation in the September 2020 governorship election which Governor Godwin Obaseki of the people’s Democratic party emerged as winner as against pastor Ize Inyamu of the All progressive Congress in delivering the judgment today 9th January 2020.
The judge Ahmed Mohammed dismissed the selit on the grounds that the allegations have no prove.
justice Ahmed held that despite the allagetion of forgery was criminal In nature and required to be proven beyond reasonable doubt.
The plantift failed to bring any evidence to back up their allegations on the PDP candidate.
The judge concluded the evidence of the plantift is variance with their allegations and contrary to the plantift claim, while the representative of the university of Ibadan confirmed that Mr, Godwin Obaseki was duly admitted to the university and the copy of the certificate he presented is genuine.
The judge in conclusion rule that, having thoroughly analysed the evidence of the case, it is the conclusion of the court that plantift did not forge his o’level certificate. His HSC certificate and particularly his university of Ibadan degree certificate.
