Deputy Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba is the new acting Inspector General of Police.
Usman Alkali Baba is taking over from Mohammed Adamu, former Inspector General of Police with immediate effect.
In a statement by the Minister of Police Affairs Maigari Dingyadi on Tuesday said it was a presidential order.
Usman is taking over from Muhammad Adamu whose tenure was extended by president Muhammadu Buhari for 3 months on 4 February.
However, Muhammad Adamu spent only 2 months out of the three months extension.
Before his appointment, Baba was the Deputy inspector General of Police in charge of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID).
Usman Alkali Baba, PSC (+), FDC has Masters Degree in Public Administration (MPA) and BA (ED) in Political Science.
Alkali is a fellow of the National Defence College and member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
DIG Alkali has also attended several professional courses/workshops, he has also hold different strategic positions in the past in the Nigeria Police Force.
The Yobe born police officer position he has attended includes the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Zone-5 Benin, Zone-4 Makurdi, Zone-7 Abuja, Commissioner of Police FCT and Delta Commands amongst others.
He also held the position of the Ag. DIG in-charge of Finance and Administration.
He has also served as the force secretary.
Born in 1963, Alkali Baba Usman is a graduate of Bayero University, Kano, and the University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force, NPF in March 1988. He progressed in ranks until he attended the position of Commissioner of Police in 2013.
He attended all compulsor courses expected of him in the force and also extra courses such as investigation, insurgency and counter- terrorism, including traffic management.
He is member of the International Association of Police, and fellow of the International War College.
He is married and blessed with Children
